Aldergrove
Aldergrove is in the Southeast section of Langley Township with a population that has now reached 11,500 plus an additional 6,000 people in the surrounding rural areas. The main routes into the town are Hwy 1, the Fraser Highway and 264th street that carries traffic from the Aldergrove-Lynden U.S. border crossing.
There's no end to activities in and around Aldergrove. Starting with Aldergrove Lake Regional Park where a man-made lake surrounded by imported sand is ideal for a family outing. The water does get much more than 6ft deep and the shallow edges are roped off so youngsters can paddle around while the older kids can swim or float further out. Picnic tables are conveniently set up around the lake. The park also has hiking trails and 12 km (7 miles) of mountain biking trails with Mount Baker towering over several of these trails. Outside the park there are many paved roads with sparse traffic, which are ideal for biking and in-line skating.
You can join the 400,000 annual visitors to the Zoo. The Greater Vancouver Zoological Centre is set in 120 acres of farmland and forest and houses over 200 species of wild animals. For the more adventurous, consider hot air ballooning.
There are heritage sites like the first customs house built in the area and there are antique shops. There are plenty of accommodations and there are restaurants to suit every palate and price. And there are farms. Like the rest of Langley Township there are farms of every type. Many farms offer tours or a variety of seasonal activities while most offer u-pick berries during harvest time. There are cranberry farms where you can buy fresh cranberries. Because of the growing conditions required for these berries they don not offer u-pick. There are horse farms, where you can go horseback riding or partake in a variety of equestrian events. There's fishing at u-catch fishing ponds and corn mazes for the whole family.
Located less than an hour from Vancouver, only minutes from the U.S. border and within a short drive of the rest of the Fraser Valley and everything else it has to offer, Aldergrove is an ideal place to stay.
